Atkinson, Caroline Louisa Waring (1834-1872) - A self-educated naturalist, illustrator, journalist and novelist, who searched for plants and animals in the forested area of the Kurrajong Heights west of Sydney, Australia. She sent plants to Ferdinand Mueller and wrote popular articles and stories in local newspapers. She caused twittering in the ranks of the colonial Mrs Grundy'  by discarding her long skirts and adopting trousers for her rambles in the bush.
